Tell us what you like in two lines (colour, song, film, food…)

I enjoy music & film from the 1950's-70's. My favorites are American folk music, early rock n' roll and Alfred Hitchcock movies. I love anything iconic and timeless.

Tell us something about the beginning of your career.

I went to art school at the Savannah College of Art & Design for Illustration and was hired right out of school to work for Wild Apple, an art publishing & licensing company in Vermont. I knew nothing about art licensing and the home décor market so it opened me up to an entirely new outlet for my work that I never knew existed. I learned a ton about creating art that people would actually want to put in their homes. This was great experience to be able to see my designs become manufactured as wall art & home products and land in stores.

Where does your passion for art come from?

I love making fun, colorful art and being able to express myself through pictures. And it's always a thrill to see my art made into stuff!

When you go back to your birth town, where is it you really go?

Chicago is my home town. When I visit family I see as much of the city as possible... which means Cubs game, deep dish pizza, & Chicago dogs.

Where do you find inspiration?

I pull a lot of inspiration from folk art, naive art, & children's art. I love the simplicity, quirkiness and imperfection and always try to incorporate some of that in my work. Also, mid-century nostalgia. My work is hugely influenced by the art & music from the 1950's and 60's.

Who’s your favourite artist? Famous or not.

Andy Warhol, John Lennon, & Andy Kaufman are my favorites. Each were daring, broke out of the mold, and weren't afraid to do their own thing & challenge how people view the world. Each are amazing artist in their own trade.

How do you create? Where?

I work as a staff artist so either in the office or at my home studio. I usually start with pencil sketches. I scan, redraw, scan, & redraw using a light box. I work traditionally until I have the design set, then I take it into the computer and finish it digitally.

How would you describe your work?

Quirky, fun, & colorful

What do you think about wall stickers?

I LOVE wall stickers! I want some!

What would you tell your clients to help them create artworks?

My sketches are terrible but don't worry... They get better with color & time!

One last comment?

I'm honored to be a featured artist on Camaloon. I'm so grateful to have such a great outlet to have my artwork made into really cool products.
